During this period, he sought to establish himself within the competitive sphere of portraiture. While he did not achieve the lasting success required to remain in London permanently, his presence in the English art scene was marked by significant professional engagements.
His technical skill as a draughtsman opened doors to more specialized work. He found employment as an illustrator for the Society of Antiquaries, contributing to the visual documentation of the era. This period of his life was defined by a transition from the academic traditions of his training toward the practical demands of the English market.
