Ulvi Liegi:アーティストの肖像画

The Life and Art of Ulvi Liegi

Born in Livorno, Italy, the painter Luigi Mosè Levi became known professionally by the anagram Ulvi Liegi. His artistic journey began with an initial education in his hometown before he moved to Florence to study at the Academy of Arts under Adolfo Tommasi, Carlo Markò the Younger, and Giuseppe Ciaranfi. During his time in Florence, he formed friendships with artists such as Telemaco Signorini and Giovanni Fattori.

His stylistic evolution saw him move from a style close to the Macchiaioli in the 1880s toward a style close to impressionism. This shift followed his travels to Paris and London between 1886 and 1888, where he studied the works of the impressionists. His presence in the international art scene was marked by his participation in the 1889 World's Fair in Paris.

Exhibitions and Legacy

Liegi was an active participant in numerous exhibitions across Europe, including shows in Turin, Venice, Bologna, London, and Milan. In 1882, he exhibited studies dal vero at the Mostra of the Società d'incoraggiamento delle Belle Arti of Florence. His career included a solo exhibition at the Galleria Mario Galli in Florence in 1918.

A member of the Post-macchiaioli movement, he was deeply connected to the art of Tuscany. From 1920, he served as the president of the Gruppo Labronico, where he promoted the art of Livorno. His works are held in various collections, including:
