生い立ちと初期の影響

1951年11月17日、スコットランドのセントアンドリュースでジャック・ホッガンとして生まれたジャック・ヴェトリアーノは、フィフ州メシルで貧困の中で育ちました。家族と共に狭い家で暮らし、幼い頃から経済的に貢献するために働き始めました。16歳で学校を中退した後、一時的に鉱山技師の見習いとなりましたが、その後は事務職に就きました。ヴェトリアーノの芸術への道が開かれたのは1970年代のことです。水彩絵具一式をプレゼントされたことがきっかけで、趣味として絵を描き始めました。当初は印象派の作品を模写し、カーカディ博物館・美術館で研究を重ねました。この時期から、ヴェトリアーノの芸術的才能が徐々に開花し始めたのです。
