John Frederick Kensett, un artista e incisore americano, nacque il 22 marzo 1816 a Cheshire, nel Connecticut. Membro della seconda generazione della scuola del fiume Hudson, le opere distintive di Kensett sono caratterizzate da qualità serene e luminose, celebrando gli aspetti trascendentali della natura.
Kensett frequentò la Cheshire Academy e studiò incisione con suo padre, Thomas Kensett.
