    Arthur Hughes (27 gennaio 1832 – 22 dicembre 1915) fu un pittore inglese e illustratore associato al movimento Pre-rafaelitico, nato a Londra nel gennaio del 1832. Nel 1846 entrò nella Scuola d'Arte Somerset House dove il suo primo maestro fu Alfred Stevens; successivamente studiò alla Royal Academy Schools dove incontrò John Everett Millais e Holman Hunt diventando parte del gruppo di artisti Pre-rafaelitici.

    Hughes iniziò la sua carriera artistica con "Musidora", un dipinto che venne esposto alla Royal Academy quando aveva appena diciassette anni, dimostrando una precoce sensibilità estetica e una capacità tecnica sorprendente.
