A szent János keresztényítéséről

1634 · Olajfestmény panelen · Metropolitan Művészeti Múzeum, New York

The Resurrection (1635) (1889) -ja Bartholomeus Breenbergh

The Resurrection

1635 · Oil On Panel · Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago

The sky breaks open with a heavy, luminous weight. Christ ascends through a thicket of clouds, his form pulling upward toward a bright, unseen source. He carries a white banner marked by a single red cross, a sharp strike of color against the pale atmosphere. Below this movement, an angel rests among the drifting vapors, eyes fixed upon the viewer with a steady, quiet gaze. The light does not merely…

Christ and the centurion of Capernaum

1630 · Oil On Canvas · Rafael Valls Limited, City of Westminster

The air in Capernaum feels heavy with the heat of a Mediterranean afternoon. To the right, a dense crowd of figures gathers, their silhouettes etched against the monumental geometry of a temple. They wear the heavy drapery of classical attire, the fabric catching the light in thick, textured folds. Amidst this assembly, the centurion and Christ occupy the center of the human drama. The scene is framed by the verticality…

Bartholomeus Breenbergh: a művész

Korai élet és képzés

A holland aranykor egyik kulcsfontosságú alakjának, Bartholomeus Breenbergh története valamennyire misztikus ködbe burkolva kezdődik. Ezek a korai hatások finoman szőtték be későbbi, érett stílusát, különösen Lastman drámai, narratív érzéke.

Művészete azonban felülhalladta a tiszta tájfestészet határait.
