Eugène Carrière dolazi na svijet 16. siječnja 1849. godine u Gournay-sur-Marne, u departmanu Seine-Saint-Denis. Kao osmo od devetoro djece osiguranosgovnika, odrastao je u obitelji koja je bila okružena životom u stalnom pokretu.
