      Flying Machine

      Melancholy of birds B, by Ali Cherri, is based on an assembly of animals and plants forming a coherent whole and constitutes a reimagining of the imagery of 19th century herbariums. The practice of collage, grafting, and hybridization for which the artist is known is the result of a restrained reading of our world, wavering between science and poetry. Of the three lithographs, the central section depicts a bird on a background of flowers. It disappears into a wash of blue and viewers will only be able to make out its contours through very close observation.

      Ali Cherri (1976 –)

      Ali Cherri est un artiste libanais reconnu pour son travail vidéo et installé explorant l’héritage culturel et environnemental du Liban et du Moyen-Orient. Présent au Guggenheim, à la Biennale de Venise et ailleurs, ses œuvres marquent les préoccupations contemporaines liées à la préservation du patrimoine artistique et culturel.
