Per Kirkeby (1938 –)

Explore the layered worlds of Per Kirkeby – Danish painter, poet & sculptor known for geological themes & experimental art. Tate, MoMA & Centre Pompidou represent his work.

Tanskan parlamentti (Kööpenhamina, Tanska)

Historiallisessa Christiansborgin palatsissa Kööpenhaminassa sijaitseva Tanskan parlamentti tarjoaa ainutlaatuisen katsauksen demokratian historiaan upeiden salien ja taiteen kautta, kutsuen tutustumaan Tanskan sydämeen.

Kirkeby has been cultivating landscape painting in a modern, picturesque idiom since the middle of the 1970s. He has frequently found his motifs in Greenland, where he has stayed many times and also worked as a geologist, or the island of Læsø where he lives in the summer. Kirkeby usually uses a subdued Nordic palette. He builds up his paintings layer by layer in a time-consuming, laborious process. His decorative works at Christiansborg have a sublime appearance as a total installation with the broad spectrum of colours in the paintings against the background of the red wall, a colour chosen by Per Kirkeby. Author: Lisbeth Bonde, M.A and art critic. Photographer: Torben Eskerod.
