Architecture & History

The current museum building, opened in 1930, is an architectural gem modeled after the Casino in the gardens of the Villa Farnese at Caprarola, Italy. The hillside stairway draws inspiration from Italian Renaissance gardens. Originally featuring imported Italian roof tiles (later replaced with Ludowici tiles), the DAI is a National Historic Site and easily accessible from I-75.
