Early Life, Family and Training Hermann Dischler was born on September 25, 1866, in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. He entered the world as the son of a merchant who dealt in cigars and colonial goods. His early years were shaped by the structured education of his home city, where he attended both the local primary school and the Gymnasium in Freiburg. His path toward a life in the arts began in earnest in 1885 when he enrolled at the
Grand Ducal Art School in Karlsruhe. This period of formal study lasted nearly a decade, providing the technical foundation for his later work. During these formative years, he also fulfilled his civic obligations, completing his military service as a one-year volunteer in 1887. By 1888, Dischler had entered the studio of Gustav Schönleber.
