Emilio Grau Sala (1911, Barcelona – 1975, Paris) was a Catalan painter whose artistic journey spanned from the formative years of Expressionism to the embrace of Parisian Impressionism and Maurice Boitel’s influence. Born in Barcelona during a period marked by political upheaval—the prelude to the Spanish Civil War—his early life instilled within him a profound appreciation for observation and emotional resonance, qualities that would permeate his entire oeuvre. He pursued formal artistic training at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Barcelona, honing his skills in oil painting and watercolor techniques before relocating to Paris in 1937, driven by both artistic ambition and the exigencies of political circumstance.
