Sir William Blake Richmond byl britský malíř, sochař a návrhář vitráží a mozaik. Narodil se v Londýně ve Spojeném království jako syn portrétního malíře George Richmonda a Julii Tathamové. Jeho umělecká cesta začala soukromým domácím výcvikem, na který následovala tříletá studia kresby a malby na Královské akademii výtvarných umění, kde začal studovat v roce 1858. Klíčové období jeho rozvoje nastalo během šestitýdenní cesty po Itálii, kde obdivoval díla starých mistrů, jako byli Michelangelo, Tintoretto a Giotto.
Richmond dosáhl brzkého úspěchu jako portrétní malíř, když v roce 1861 vystavil své první významné dílo na Královské akademii. Jeho talent mu v roce 1888 otevřel cestu k titulu asociovaného člena Královské akademie a v roce 1895 se stal královským akademikem.
