The Life and Art of Albert Namatjira Born Elea Namatjira at the Hermannsburg Lutheran Mission, he was a member of the Western Arrernte people. After being raised at the mission and undergoing initiation into the Arrernte community, he began painting seriously in 1934 under the guidance of Rex Battarbee.
