The Life and Art of Annie Swynnerton
Annie Louisa Swynnerton was a British painter known for her portraiture, landscapes, and symbolist works. Born in Kersal, United Kingdom, she trained at the Manchester School of Art and later studied at the Académie Julian in Paris. During her formative years, she spent time in Rome alongside her friend Susan Isabel Dacre. Her career was marked by significant professional milestones, including being the first woman elected as an associate of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1922. Swynnerton was an active supporter of the women's suffrage movement and was a signatory to the 1889 National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies' Declaration in Favour of Women's Suffrage.
